Target Letters Sent to At-Risk Homeowners

Prosecutor Bill Mason and County Treasurer Jim Rokakis are sending target letters to at-risk Cuyahoga County homeowners and renters whose homes or residences may be in jeopardy of falling into foreclosure.

With information from the County Auditor's Office, the Treasurer's Office, and research from the Center on Urban Poverty and Community Development at Case Western Reserve University, these target letters were sent to county residents that may be having trouble making payments on  their mortgage.

Even if the person is current on their mortgage, they should look at their mortgage situation to make sure it will be affordable in the future.

If a renter received the letter, the mortgage on the home may be at risk for foreclosure. If the  home owner or renter  has concerns or questions, they can call the Cleveland Tenants' Organization at 216-432-0609 to explore options in the event a foreclosure is filed.

Prosecutor Mason and Treasurer Rokakis also announced the Eastside Mortgage Workshop on Thursday, November 5th.

Staff from the Treasurer's Office will be available to answer questions about real estate taxes and tax payment plans. There will also be representatives from local, non-profit housing agencies who can review a mortgage situation and advise on options, even if a person has already missed monthly payments. These HUD-approved foreclosure counselors will be ready to meet with persons one on one.

Don't let mortgage problems sneak up on you. Attend the workshop and get the information to plan for a secure future.

Eastside Mortgage Workshop

Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Church of the Savior – Great Hall

2537 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118

Persons who received letters should bring the letter and copies of mortgage papers so that experts will have the information they need. Often something can be done to save a home, and there are always more options before a house goes into foreclosure. The event is free and every resident is welcome.
