Daniel Burns and John Briggle Indicted for Stealing $160,000 From Cleveland City Schools

Daniel Burns, 54, of Perrysburg, and John Briggle, 56, of Toledo, were indicted on racketeering charges in addition to tampering with records and theft charges.

Between December 17, 2007 to November 7, 2008, Burns, former Cleveland Schools Chief Operating Officer, and Briggle, owner of Superior Off-Set Supplies (SOS), conspired to steal approximately $160,200 from the Cleveland Public Schools. Briggle's company accepted payment from the Cleveland Public Schools and Briggle gave money to Burns in the form of cash payments. The Cleveland Public Schools notified the State Auditor when they found discrepancies in billing.

Burns was indicted on one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, six counts of tampering with records, and one count of theft in office. Briggle was indicted on one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, six counts of tampering with records, and one count of theft.

Arraignment for both defendants is scheduled for December 17, 2009, at 8:30 am.
