Anthony Sowell Indicted for the Attempted Murder of a
42-Year-Old Woman at His Imperial Avenue Residence

Prosecutor's Cold Case Unit Reviewing Unsolved Murders for
Possible Connection to Sowell

A Cuyahoga County Grand Jury returned a three count indictment against Anthony Sowell for kidnapping, attempted murder, and felonious assault of a 42-year-old Cleveland woman at his residence on Imperial Avenue, in Cleveland. These new charges are in addition to the 85 charges brought against Sowell in December 2009, for the murder of eleven females, the rape of two females, and the attempted rape of a third female.

Prosecutor Mason said, "With a greater than 90 % percent conviction rate over the last 11 years, I am confident the families of these victims and the victims that survived Sowell's death grip will see justice."

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office Cold Unit is reviewing unsolved murders during the period when Sowell lived in the cities of Cleveland and East Cleveland.

The Cold Case Unit works with Cleveland Police Detectives from the Homicide and Sex Crime Units as well as BCI and the Coroner's Office. The County Prosecutor's Office recently received a $500,000 federal grant to continue its work in solving cold cases. This DNA grant provides for the investigation into and the collection of evidence that contains biological material that may assist in solving old cases through the use of DNA.
